The following frequently asked questions are targeted at campus technologists and others that work with technical interoperability of Identity Service. If you're not technical staff perhaps you're looking for the Customer Frequently Asked Questions.

» How do I configure my application for UCSBnetID authentication?
» I'm looking for details on LDAP attribute x. Where can I find out more?
» What's the difference between ldap.ucsb.edu and directory.ucsb.edu?

The new "Primary" LDAP service at ldap.ucsb.edu has been designed with a standard directory information tree (DIT) to facilitate interoperability with LDAP-enabled software packages. It also contains a number of new attributes for handling UC-Trust functionality. Where possible, Primary LDAP should be used for all LDAP transactions.

The directory.ucsb.edu LDAP service is provided for backwards compatibility with legacy applications. It employs the same non-standard legacy DIT used with the former directory.ucsb.edu service.

For details on the DIT and schema differences, check out the identity repositories info.
