The following frequently asked questions are targeted at identity customers. Developers and technical staff might also want to have a look at the
Developer Frequently Asked Questions.
» How do I get a UCSBnetID?
Current students, faculty, and staff are automatically eligible for a UCSBnetID you may activate yours using the Identity Manager.
If you don't fall into one of these categories, you'll need to have a University department sponsor you as an affiliate. Have your host department visit our information on
Affiliate UCSBnetIDs.
◌
» I can't log in with my UCSBnetID and Password how do I fix this?
Sign in to the Identity Manager, which doesn't require a UCSBnetID and password for access. The Identity Manager will allow you to review your UCSBnetID, account status, and optionally reset your password. ◌
» I'm a student coming to UCSB next quarter. Can I activate my UCSBnetID now?
Incoming students may activate their UCSBnetID one to two business days after they've filed their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR). Sign in to our Identity Manager to get started.
If you've filed your SIR but you're not yet able to activate your UCSBnetID
let us know.
◌
» I am a returning staff member or academic. Will my UCSBnetID be reactivated with the same password I had previously?
Yes, we attempt to locate your previous Identity record and reactivate it when possible. If we're unable to do so you'll need to reactivate, potentially with a new UCSBnetID.
In any case, you can determine the disposition of your Identity record by
signing in to the
Identity Manager.
◌
» I'd like to get a UCSBnetID for a visiting researcher or guest? How do I do so?
We refer to visiting researchers, contractors, and other miscellaneous members of the UCSB community as "affiliates". See our information on Affiliate UCSBnetIDs for instructions on securing access for these individuals. ◌
» I've just graduated from UCSB and accepted an employee position on campus. Do I need a new UCSBnetID?
No. Your existing UCSBnetID will reflect your new affiliation as an employee. ◌
» Can I change my UCSBnetID?
Although meant to be permanent identifier during your career at UCSB, your UCSBnetID can be reissued under certain circumstances. Log in to the UCSBnetID Reissue Request service to initiate the process. ◌
» Where is my directory listing displayed?
Faculty and staff records are displayed online in the People Finder as well as in the printed directory provided by Communications Services.
Student records are displayed online in the
U-Mail Student Directory.
◌
» How can I update the directory information displayed in the People Finder?
Directory services information maintained by Identity Services can be updated using the Identity Editor. You may either update your information directly, or your department's delegated editor may edit it for you.
Note that some of the personal data we maintain comes to us from the Office of the Registrar (students) and the UC Payroll service (for employees). These data will need to be updated at their source.
◌
» How is a department name assigned to my People Finder entry?
Department names are assigned to entries based on a list of departments provided to us by the Accounting Department.
A person's primary display department is set based on their home department according to the payroll system. A secondary display department may optionally be selected. Both department name settings may be modified within the Person Editor. ◌
» How are people assigned to a department in the People Finder?
The People Finder determines membership in a department based on one of three criteria:
• it's the person's home department as assigned within the University payroll system
• it's been set as the person's Primary Display Department within the
Identity Editor
• it's been set as the person's Secondary Display Department within the
Identity Editor
◌
» Can I log into AYSO (At Your Service Online) with my UCSBnetID?
Not at this time. If you're having trouble with your At Your Service Online login credentials, try the links below their "Sign In" button that match your situation.
◌
» What happened to U-Reset?
The U-Reset service has been retired. If you're looking to activate a UCSBnetID or reset your password you'll want to use the Identity Manager service.
Note that there's no need to visit the Identity Helpdesk in person to activate a UCSBnetID or reset your password.
◌
» I'm an instructor having trouble logging in to eGrades. What can I do?
If you can't log in to eGrades, we recommend that you first verify your UCSBnetID and password by signing in to the Identity Manager.
We sometimes see instructors have their UCSBnetID terminated at the end of an academic quarter because they no longer are active according to the payroll system. In this case you'll need to have staff in your department enter grades on your behalf. Contact
egrades@sa.ucsb.edu for further assistance.
