Thunderbird Configuration

Effective July 1st 2014 this service will no longer be accessible outside of the UCSB campus networks. For off-campus access to email addresses we recommend using the People Finder service. Alternately we recommend using the Campus VPN Service for remote access to UCSB campus resources.

1. Before starting you'll need to know your UCSBnetID and password. If you don't know both of these you'll first need to sign-in to the Identity Manager and retrieve them.

2. In the main Thunderbird window, click on the Address Book button to bring up the address search window. Navigate the menu to FileNewLDAP Directory.... In the resulting window fill out the fields as follows:

Name: UCSB Directory
Base DN: o=UCSB
Port NUmber: 636
Bind DN: uid=[your ucsbnetid],ou=People,o=UCSB
Use secure connection (SSL): [checked]

3. Click Ok to close the address search window. Next you'll want to configure your e-mail account to automatically search the UCSB Directory. Navigate the menu to ToolsAccount Settings... and select "Composition & Addressing". In the "Addressing" section select "Use a different LDAP server:" and select "UCSB Directory" from the drop-down list.

4. Click Ok to close the account settings window — you're all done. Note that you'll be prompted for your UCSBnetID and password when you begin using the directory search feature.
